Originally known as a Ramonesy Southern California surf band (the evidence is five tracks on the 1979 compilation), Huntington Beach’s Crowd had realized several added levels of sophistication by the time they cut an album the following year. A World Apart retains some punk stylings, but also exhibits several other influences that give it real personality. The songs aren’t much good, however, and the record outstays its welcome.
