Crush

A useful reminder that you can’t judge a band by its genealogy, this witless melodic modern-rock quartet boasts original Killing Joke drummer Paul Ferguson and mid-’80s Siouxsie and the Banshees guitarist John Valentine Carruthers (also ex-Clock DVA, Lloyd Cole). That singer Fred Schreck is a New Jersey goth veteran is more salient. None too smart, utterly ordinary (woven together from bits of Big Country, Bad Company, Simple Minds and Rage Against the Machine — the band should have been called Big, Bad & Simple Machine) and produced to a glossy pallor by Pat Moran, Crush is a generic waste of plastic.
