Illustrated Man

Did I-Man’s brief and miserable existence quite qualify it as a supergroup? Hugo Burnham (ex-Gang of Four), Roger Mason (a Gary Numan sideman), Rob Dean (ex-Japan) and Australian singer/bassist Philip Foxman combined to produce overbearing, overproduced, soul-free dance-funk that hardly reflects well on any of the participants. Actually, if they had lost Foxman — his voice was the band’s worst feature — Illustrated Man might have had a future. Instead, this is just corporate bandwagon-jumping of no merit.
