NEXT EXIT (Buy CDs by this artist)
Metropolitan West (KDT) 1983

From the bird noises and strange tempo of "Regular Job," the song that opens this Seattle quartet's album, it's obvious that something weird is going on here. The barely connected behind-the-beat vocals and modern-culture/modern-misery lyrics collide with intriguing guitar noises, sound effects and subtle rhythms, making varied songs like "Stress" and "Somewhile Exile" odd fare indeed. The band plays well and has no shortage of bright ideas, especially when steering clear of the provincial garage-pop tendencies that occasionally surface.
