REGINA (Buy CDs by this artist)
Curiosity (Atlantic) 1986

Longtime New York scenester Regina Richards finally hit it big by dropping her last name, allowing crazy things to be done with her hair and cutting a formulaic LP of post-Madonna rock and dance originals. The singing guitarist left the underground far behind on the ultra-commercial Curiosity, which credits four people for the simple (and not at all original) cover concept and a fifth for Artist's Image Development. (Does anyone remember when talent had something to do with it?) The Supremes-into-Bananarama "Baby Love" (co-written by Madonna collaborator Stephen Bray, who produced and played on the track) was a Top 10 hit, but nothing else on the album comes close to it.
