From "Someone who actually was there." <upyours posers@iwishiknew.com>:

Your Clan of Xymox review is a bunch of bullshit!!!! I can't help to think the big bunch of posers u are not having any clue about a band or a label for that matter -4AD- which shaped your so called "alternative" world. There are a lot of little jems of music and art from that era that people like u never realised how they changed pop culture forever. I laugh at all of u little wannabees. Why don't u take a good hard look at the drab bullshit u praise today by a bunch of fuckn poser wannabees and see how they stole there idenity from bands like that and could never hold the originality, complexity, and extreme ideals of this time when this was a real "alternative" I hate your "alternative" label. The "alternative" label started getting used back in 1990 when trendy dweebs like your self stopped listening to Debbie Gibson and started listening to Nirvana. What u represent to me are just mainstream trendy posers stealing a style and branding yourself with it trying to be cool. You are a walking cliche nightmare, a bloated pig jester of fools riding high on a crooked crown. Go back to prom bitch!!!!!!

Hilarious. The writer apparently didn't read the hundreds of positive reviews of 4AD artists, nor observe the pre-Gibson back history of TP. Assumedly, the 'drab bullshit' of today is supposed to go uncritiqued. But where did the '"alternative'" label (as applied to TP) come from, the 2nd edition?

According to Webster, "alternative" came into being around the year 1540. Seems like a pretty good adjective to me. Works well as a noun, too. But the main point here is...he's talking about Clan of freakin' Xymox! "U" have got to be kidding.

you know: Ira was listening to Debbie Gibson in 89--i saw him at the paramus mall with a walkman--but he soon switched to Screaming Trees coz all the kids at the arcade were doin it.

speaking of 4AD--is there really no Mojave 3 here? I love that band so much. (shame about pixies and lush and cocteau twins getting no critical press!!)

hey is he imitating dylan?

Dr. Filth, he keeps his world
Inside of a leather cup
But all his sexless patients
They're trying to blow it up
Now his nurse, some local loser
She's in charge of the cyanide hole
And she also keeps the cards that read
"Have Mercy on His Soul"
They all play on penny whistles
You can hear them blow
If you lean your head out far enough
From Desolation Row

or

Now you see this one-eyed midget
Shouting the word "NOW"
And you say, "For what reason?"
And he says, "How?"
And you say, "What does this mean?"
And he screams back, "You're a cow
Give me some milk
Or else go home"

Because something is happening here
But you don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones?

Clan of Freakin' Xymox. That's actually a good band or LP name. Though I would spell it Zimocks. Speaking of Lush...underrated, I say (old chap). Later transgressions (Elasticized last release) may have overshadowed the masterful power-pop strum of (in the US) Gala, but it holds up today as one of the greatest statements of the Ethereal era.

no no
i agree about lush (and most of all pixies); great stuff--i was saying that the kid(?) was bemoaning lack of attention for 4ad and if i remember lush got plenty of praise, on both sides.

To "Someone who actually was there":

There are many brands of decaf on the market that are just as tasty as the regular coffee. Please, check them out.

"Boated Pig Jester" actually sounds like it might be a Guided by Voices song. Someone tell Bob Pollard to write it ... he'll probably have something written, recorded and on vinyl within five minutes.

As someone who also sees diatribes directed at Ira or one of the other writers, they usually go something like this one. Something this funny can't possibly be insulting.
