A friend and I were listening to Bad brains. It was her first time listening and was intrigued that a all black band from dc would play hardcore punk.
We were wondering if there exisists or ever exisisted all black female rock band or any other music for that matter. {band meaning one that plays their own instruments}.
To my knowledge i dont think one exisists

The closest I can think of is A Taste of Honey, a disco group fronted by a black female guitarist and a black female bassist. They had a big hit in 1978 with "Boogie Oogie Oogie."

Man, an all black female band would be epic. I am surprised it has never happened spontaneously or been engineered by some record label svengali.

There was an L.A.band called Strange Fruit. I don't think they recorded anything, but they did get a bit of local media notice for being an all-sista band.

Yeah, we were wondering were you went, satch. Anyway, I did find this by Strange Fruit aka strangefruit:

but otherwise, nuthin'. Tho apparently former members have appeared on Macy Gray recordings and have played with the likes of Ozomotli. Too bad, it's a unique song.

Looking at the photos on the group's web site, it appears Klymaxx had at least one white member. (The group did play its own instruments, though.)

Beyoncé performed with an all black female band in the 2011 Glastonbury Festival. I just saw her performance on the Palladia network.

The TP review for the band Majesty Crush sez that their record label Vulva was named after " a hoax, in the fanzine You Can't Hide Your Love Forever, involving an all-black female speed-metal band."

The article can't seem to figure out whether they have a "sexual crank" sound (second sentence) or a "sensual crank" sound (halfway into the article). I, on the other hand, can't figure out for the life of me what EITHER of these might actually sound like.
And no, I'm not curious enough to find out the answer.

This thread makes me think of an old episode of "All In The Family."
Archie: Here's something we can see in Disney World. They got an all bear band.
Edith: They got a naked band at Disney World?
