 Punks-n-Food

First there was Greg Norton with his restaurant. Now as I watch the Food Network and enjoy my favorite mouth-watering programs like Diners, Dumpsters and Dives and The Best Thing I Ever Ate, I see a lotta punks. Well, chefs with mohawks at least, not to mention the host of the Dives show who could've fronted a hardcore band. Green Day, it's time to quit and open up your restaurant. And yeah, the rapper Flavor Flav was trying to catch up with his chicken joint, but it didn't work out. I think these punks are coming up with the tastiest dishes.

Didn't someone from a seminal DC punk/hardcore band end up opening a restaurant (I want to say Sab Grey from Iron Cross, but I'm not sure).

Joe Queer also (co-)owned a restaurant at one point before he went back to the Queers full-time.

The late great Karl Mueller of Soul Asylum worked as a cook for a long time after the band got going.

The closest I can think is that Dante Ferrando's (Gray Matter) father ran Food for Thought, a vegetarian restaurant that merged with with the Black Cat nightclub that Ferrando opened up. Actually merged isn't quite right, I think after his father's restaurant closed, they kept it alive as a cafe in the club. When I go to a club to see a band, that's the last thing I think of - ordering food.

Handsome Dick Manitoba owns a bar in NYC - Manitoba's. When I was there for my brother's bachelor party, I took everyone down there to get a drink from the Handsome one himself. Also, HDM used to write a food column for the Dictator's website. Manichili is considered the chili to make at my house.

Alex Kapranos of Franz Ferdinand used to maintain a well-regarded food blog, but don't know if he keeps up with it anymore.

I usually make sure I'm well fed before I go see music, but with the rise of food cart culture here in Austin, the idea of having food along with your concert is becoming more common. I've seen vendors selling inside, though it's more often just outside the club.

Guy Fieri in a hardcore band?! Maybe one of those Victory label douchebags I guess...

I was surprised to see a vegetarian sangwich on Dick's website. I am impressed!

Good food and rock go hand and hand.

And Mike, what is up with all this food cart culture. It's all the rage in Columbus and sort of annoys me. I mean there have always been the authentic hispanic ones but now all the white folk are into it too. I am not sure why it annoys me but it does. Sure i will go to the vegan hot dog guy (Rad Dog) but give me a break.

Two members of Oingo Boingo formed a band called Food For Feet. With a name like that, a restaurant seems like the next likely venture for them.
