I passed over an Ultravox CD in a bin of $1.50 used discs yesterday and thought of this forum.
However, I did pick up copies of The Lion And The Cobra, Maxinquaye, Dead Letter Office, Love and Rockets' Lift, and that second Fiona Apple album with the impossibly long title.
...
"Ingenuity, the sole studio album by this version of Ultravox, is surprising in its non-wretchedness. New vocalist Sam Blue is competent-to-good, often achieving a decent approximation of Ure, and the music is at least listenable and sometimes great. It's not Ultravox as we know it, but fans of the band coming across Ingenuity in a cut-out bin could throw their money away on worse things."
...
I'll be damned! They were right. Lift is a steaming pile of techno twaddle. I also passed on copies of Reveal and An Evening With Mel Torme.
I was *this* close on the Torme thing, however.

I thought about doing this when I saw it yesterday, but I decided I would wait to hear the album in its entirety. I am VERY eager to hear it.

What I heard yesterday sounded, well, like they always sound. Ure's voice isn't quite as grandiose, but it's faithful to what I've heard (which is basically just Vienna).
