Here's a post from the venue that Richard Lloyd was going to be playing in St. Lou this weekend:
"Very sorry to report that this saturday's Richard Lloyd show here has been cancelled. Richard's health has declined over the past week and on June 11 he was admitted to the hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. His 2012 Tour has been cancelled."
That sounds worrisome.

Wow. That's too bad. His tour was only through July, so hopefully the full cancellation of it isn't as foreboding and dire as it sounds. I think Billy Ficca was playing on this trip. . .

Yikes. That begs the question of exactly what type of hospital he ended up in.
Also depressing - the article mentions that the Cleveland gig was sparsely attended. It's freaking Richard Lloyd, Universe. The man has earned sellout gigs, not sparsely attended ones.

Speaking of Richard Lloyd, I am going to see Matthew Sweet tonight--sans Lloyd, of course, and with another guitarist playing all of his and Quine's parts on Girlfriend. I suppose if you can find someone who has the chops of Lloyd without all of the attendant baggage. . .
Or at least that seems to be the principle Matthew has operated under during tours since at least the mid-1990s (though I saw Richard guest on "Evangeline" and a couple of other tracks in NYC during Sweet's best-of tour in 2000 or 2001).
Frankly, I'm glad I don't have to travel and live with a good portion of the people I work with.

Oh, I wish they were Melville scholars. (I wish I was too.) At least then we'd have something to talk about.

Who would be worse to go on a bus trip with? The crew of the Pequod, or Glanton's gang?
Actually, that's not really a very hard question. Lose Ahab and the Pequod crew ain't a bad bunch of guys at all. Glanton's gang, not so much.

The Pequod crew are actually all pretty fun, except for that pill of a captain. Rope him to his hammock, put Starbuck in charge, and you've got yourself a good trip.
(I'd want no part of that crew of scumbags, murderers, and miscreants that are the Glanton Gang.)
