 Daughter of Dickie

The theater I go to every Tuesday night, Cinema 1:69 in Lansdowne, not only has a rich movie history, but a rich music history as well. Tonight I spoke to a girl behind the counter who is the daughter of Bob Dickie of the Strapping Fieldhands. Now I never would've found this out had I not worn my Trouser Press (tm) T-Shirt. She took one look at it and said that's cool, that magazine goes way back. That's when she talked about her dad's band. Usually the only remarks I get on the shirt is Trouser Press, what's that, or is that a type of pants company. I'll have to wear it on South Street next time so I can bring more offspring of such bands out of the woodwork.

"It's Tricky! It's Tricky!"

"Went to The White House to bust it out and he had to leave early!"

Reminds me of Lou Reed's anecdote about a club where the Velvet Underground was playing. He struck up a conversation with the girl who was taking tickets. She mentioned that her father had just passed away. He expressed his condolences. The girl told him that her father was Michael Leigh, the author of the exposé from which the band had gotten its name.
