Seattle has plenty of suburbs like that. Bellevue doesn't corner the market on soulless.
Let's see, the Dum Dum Girls and Craft Spells are on a double-bill at the Neptune Theatre this Saturday. I've seen both bands; this could be a good gig.
The Tractor, at 5213 Ballard Avenue NW, usually has something cool going on.
The best record stores I've found in Seattle are in the Ballard district as well. Sonic Boom Records and Bop Street Records are on opposite sides of the 2200 block of NW Market Street. You'll do fine at both of those.
If you want to cruise up I-5 a few miles to the town of Everett, Bargain CDs is on 25th and Broadway. Loads of used CDs, vinyl, videos, and even 8-tracks.
Enjoy! It's a cool city. I would suggest we meet up, but our furniture arrives on Monday and we still have a ton of things to do. (If you do decide to come up to Everett, however, let me know. I'd be glad to break away for a drink with a fellow TPer.)
