Depression is a terrible thing.

I swear I'm not trying to downplay the tragic death of this performer, but it does bear saying: to anyone even casually familiar with Linkin Park's repertoire, this is probably the least surprising rock death since Layne Staley, or maybe even Kurt Cobain. At least half the band's songs allude to suicide, depression, or just the sheer futility of life. When an artist sustains such a worldview consistently for nearly 20 years, it can't possibly be just an act.

We recently picked up a copy of "The Best Of Joy Division" and my wife said "it sounds like the work of a guy who would commit suicide." To which I could add nothing.
