TP 22
TP 22 October 1977
It's still 1977, and pretty boy Johnny Rotten graces our cover — on which we announced that new wave, in the original use of the phrase, was over. (Imagine a magazine tacking such an inflammatory editorial slogan on a public figure today: his lawyers would have a field day.) This stunning painting was by Rob Burger, an amazing airbrush auteur who promptly priced himself out of our (admittedly minor) league. But not before we nagged him into a Pink Floyd cover for TP 28. In keeping with the commercialization of new wave, we tried to make a poster of this image, but the printer botched it, and that ended that idea. Note the too-hip anti-new wave article and continuing Jimmy Page interview. We tried to cover all the bases.
